The NTFS file security options can be enabled easily enough in XP Pro, but are apparently non-existent in the Home version. Fact is, the tools are there, you just need to look a little bit harder.

To enable NTFS file security in Windows XP Home: First you need to assure that at least your main hard drive is formatted with the NTFS file system. See tip #61 for instructions on this. Restart your system. Just after the memory and BIOS check screen, but before the Windows splash screen comes up, press F8 a few times.

When the Windows boot menu appears, select ‘safe mode’ from the list of options.

Once Windows has loaded in safe mode, right click the folders and files you would like to change access to. You will notice that the ‘security’ tab now exists, and thus you are allowed to assign or deny access to individual users for each file, folder and program. Once you are done, restart Windows normally, and your changes will be enforced.

Steps to follow:
1) Download RadarSync and run the installer to get the software installed on your computer

2) Double click on the shortcut on your desktop to launch RadarSync.

3) Hit Start Now to begin searching for updates for your installed drivers and software.

After RadarSync finds updates, it displays them and gives you various options. You can view details about the individual drivers or choose to download them all at once. RadarSync also allows you to create packs. Packs allow you to save all your software into a pack and then if you format your computer, you can redownload all the software in one shot.

If error reporting in XP is bugging you then turn it off.

To disable error reporting, follow these directions:

1. Right-click My Computer and choose Properties.
2. Click the Advanced tab on your System Properties dialog box.
3. Click the Error Reporting button on the Advanced tab.
4. Place a checkmark next to “Disable error reporting.”
5. Leave the other radio button unchecked next to the text labeled, “But notify me when critical errors occur.”
6. Click OK.

Each time you boot Windows XP, there’s an updated file called NTOSBOOT-*.pf who appears in your prefetch directory (%SystemRoot%Prefetch) and there’s no need to erease any other files as the new prefetch option in XP really improves loading time of installed programs. We only want WindowsXP to boot faster and not decrease its performance. With modification, result in an EXTREMELY fast bootup:

1. Open notepad.exe, type “del c:windowsprefetch tosboot-*.* /q” (without the quotes) & save as “ntosboot.bat” in c:

2. From the Start menu, select “Run…” & type “gpedit.msc”.

3. Double click “Windows Settings” under “Computer Configuration” and double click again on “Shutdown” in the right window.

4. In the new window, click “add”, “Browse”, locate your “ntosboot.bat” file & click “Open”.

5. Click “OK”, “Apply” & “OK” once again to exit.

6. From the Start menu, select “Run…” & type “devmgmt.msc”.

7. Double click on “IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers”

8. Right click on “Primary IDE Channel” and select “Properties”.

9. Select the “Advanced Settings” tab then on the device 0 or 1 that doesn’t have ‘device type’ greyed out select ‘none’ instead of ‘autodetect’ & click “OK”.

Go to Run –>gpedit.msc User Configuration –> Administrative Templates –> Windows Components –> Windows Explorer

Enable and then Disable “Removes Folder Options menu from Tools menu”
Close all windows explorer windows and then open again.. most probably your folder options is back

Reboot your computer and as soon as Windows logs off, start repeatively tapping the F8 Key on your keyboard.As soon as you see the Windows Advanced Startup options select Safe Mode within Safe Mode get yourself into these folders…

C:\Windows\System32 (Rename wgatray.exe to wgatrayold.exe)
C:\Windows\System32\dllcache (Rename wgatray.exe to wgatrayold.exe)Note: Dllcache is a hidden folder, to view hidden folders do the following, go to Start, Control Panel, Folder Options,Select the view Tab and under the Hidden Files option, select Show hidden filesa and folders

3. Safe Mode Registry
Click on Start, Run and within the open dialog box type regedit and click OK.
Within the Registry Editor navigate your self to HKEY_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\WGALOGON

Right Click and Export the WGALOGON Folder (this should be saved onto your machine for backup purposes
After Exporting the folder, DELETE the WGALOGON folder
After deleting close all applications and Restart your machine back to Normal Mode
