Samsung have confirmed that the Galaxy S3, will not appear at Mobile World Congress (MWC)... more »

Samsung have confirmed that the Galaxy S3, will not appear at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2012, surprising everyone. The phone which has been hyped to be the successor to the S2 was expected to be launched at the event in Barcelona next month.

However despite the fact that they are “looking forward to introducing and demonstrating exciting new mobile products at Mobile World Congress 2012″, the new Galaxy will not be one of them.

Yes, anyone who was hoping for an upgrade for their Samsung Galaxy S2, will have to hold off on their trip to www.o2.co.uk or their local provider branch. You would have thought the mobile congress event would have been the perfect event for the upgrades début.

The hold off could be for a number of reasons:

- Samsung may want to reduce the gap between the launch of the new phone and its US release.

- There might have been a delay in the manufacturing process.

- Perhaps they want the launch to rival the introduction of the iPhone 5, which is thought to début in July of this year.

Whatever the reasoning, Samsung are looking to make the Galaxy S3 a bigger deal.

“The successor to the Galaxy S2 smart phone will be unveiled at a separate Samsung-hosted event in the first half of the year, closer to commercial availability of the product.”

So what will this event be? Naturally the rumour mill is speculating, but one of the most convincing suggestions is that the launch will tie-in with the London 2012 Olympics. It makes sense considering Samsung is an official partner of the Games. What better time to unveil their most anticipated product than during an event that will be seen by billions the world over?

Wikipedia is of one the most influential database directory has released their much awaited mobile application for Android. The app is free and available for download in the Android market! Official Wikipedia App for Android is the free encyclopedia containing more than 20 million articles in 280 languages, and is the most comprehensive and widely used reference work humans have ever compiled. You’re presented with ‘Today’s featured article’ on the app’s home screen with an easy to read text layout, optimized for smartphones. It offers an impressive and useful ‘Save page’ feature, thus to let users save desired articles to read later or when offline.

Wikipedia have ability to Share pages, read an article in a different language, Full screen search, check history of recently viewed pages and there is a ‘Nearby’ option that searches for nearby locations on a Google Map. Moreover, there’s a Settings option to set the preferred text font size and default language for Wikipedia app from a list of various languages offered.

~ This is the initial version of app that has been installed by a very fair amount of Android users. We hope for some future updates that would make it more amazing.

Nokia launched two handsets in their Windows Phone segment. They were Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 701. It was one of the highly awaited mobile phone of recent times. With Windows based mobile phone coming in to the scene in a much more visible manner, people were more then eager to see how this Windows Phone would perform.

After a long time Nokia have windows OS mobile phone back ,the Lumia 800- far superior than any other WP phone out there, an excellent display, good battery life and a UI that is thrashing Android’s ageing UI hands down. Critically, it again boils down to the pricing bit, and we hope Nokia gets it right.

Advanatages of Nokia Lumia 800

Unique yet brilliant design

Classy yet solid build quality

Excellent UI on WP 7.5 – Live Tiles particularly

Very good display – particularly for multimedia consumption

Contact handling much improved with Mango update

Battery life doesn’t disappoint

Disadvantages of Nokia Lumia 800

Call clarity isn’t as good as we had hoped for

Accessing the micro SIM slot is an unnecessarily long process

Disappointing camera

Packaged
In terms of the package, the Lumia 800 has the hardware, the performance and a very good OS. It does miss out on a memory card slot and a front facing camera. We just hope Nokia get the pricing right, and don’t overprice it.

Price: TBA (Update: Rs. 29,999)

Specification of nokia lumia 800:

Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon

1.4GHz processor; 512MB RAM;

Windows Phone 7.5; 3.7-inch AMOLED display,

480 x 800 pixels;

16GB storage;

8MP camera with 720p HD videos;

micro SIM slot only;

1450 mAh battery

It seems best after coming at conclusion , and i think i would prefer 65% Chance for success for Nokia Lumia 800

I simply love the android applications in google smartphones.Do check out the list of top 10 google android applications according to my survey:

1. ASTRO File Manager:

This is one of those apps you hope gets some attention, if only to be bought by Google or otherwise integrated into the basic phone software. ASTRO File Manager does a great job of letting you navigate files on your SD card and accessible internal memory, sure, but it also has its own built-in task killer, backs up applications, can send files as email attachments (not all that easy or intuitive from the mail client, for some reason), and much more. It’s the Leatherman of Android utilities, and a must-have on any serious geek’s phone.

2.WaveSecure:

This one’s only free until March 31, so be sure to jump on it if you think there’s even a remote chance you’ll want some killer security tools available to you. WaveSecure not only backs up your contacts, SMS messages, photos and videos, and other files to the developer’s cloud for later restoring if your phone gets lost, but can lock down a phone when you’re stashing it for a while, locate a phone with GPS or text message triangulation (seriously), and, as a final option, pull off a total and complete remote wipe if you fear all is lost. Powerful peace of mind, especially for the price.

3.PDANet:

PDANet is the easiest way to use your phone’s cellular net connection as a makeshift internet access point, for those hard-up situations when you just need to get online somehow, anyhow. The free version always offers basic internet access, but restricts secure site connections after a trial period. The paid version isn’t cheap ($30), but it is the easiest of the three ways we know how to tether an Android phone. For the cost of nothing, we’ll take some basic web site browsing—because, hey, can’t you get to Gmail on your phone if you really need it?

4.Shopper:

Okay, at first we were pretty skeptical of Google’s Shopper app, since it seemed like just a mashup of Google’s own Goggles and barcode-smart apps likes ShopSavvy. Then we actually used Shopper, and were amazed at both how accurately it picked up both barcodes and simple cover shots, and at how very fast it worked. Turns out, according to one developer who appeared on This Week in Google, Shopper is actually uploading image data to Google’s servers as it captures it, and decodes barcodes right on the phone. Speed for speed’s sake is nice, sure, but it’s pretty nice not to have to stand in front of a book display for a whole two minutes, waving your phone around a bunch of books you’re trying to competitively price. Shopper answers the “Can I buy this cheaper” question, and answers it quickly.

5.SlideScreen:

You use your Android smartphone differently than your desktop computer. You don’t work with files and shortcuts, so much as you check in on the streams of data you care about—email, text messages, Facebook and Twitter, chat, and the like. SlideScreen replaces, or just augments, if you’d like, your phone’s home screen, creating row after row of messages and feeds. Slide the center info bar up and down to look at more or less of your items, swipe to the right to dismiss items as read, and revel in having all your data on hand at once. SlideScreen also replaces the standard application tray, giving you 8 slots to put your most frequently accessed apps, and tucking all the others into a rolling deck below. It’s a total makeover for your phone, in other words—one that might just make you fall in love all over again with the concept of mobile data.

6.TasKiller Free:

The downside to Android’s multi-tasking is that sometimes, some apps can become unexpectedly become memory or bandwidth hogs, or bring your phone down with them when they crash. Few apps provide a direct, easy “Quit” option, though, and sometimes you can’t get to the app to close it. Enter TasKiller, a free app-killing utility that works from its standard icon, or as one of a number of widgets you can add to your home screen for one-click system rescuing. The free version serves up ads and lacks a few advanced features, but generally serves the needs of anyone who’s sick of needing to actually reset their phone just to clear up space for, you know, phone calls and such. Note: This app should be used as more of a last resort than regular maintenance tool—killing processes and apps willy-nilly can turn off alarms, kill background syncing, and have other unintended consequences.

7.Secrets:

There’s no browser syncing on the Android—yet (c’mon, Mozilla, get on that Firefox Mobile!). In the meantime, there’s Secrets, a secure, KeePass-compatible, master-password-locked vault for all your passwords. It’s not that hard to export your passwords from your desktop or laptop onto your SD card, and with full-text search finally implemented, Secrets is a lot more convenient for those oh-shoot-what’s-that-username-again moments.

8.AnyCut:

You can drop a lot of neat things on your Android home screen, but you can’t quite get one-click access to everything in your phone’s settings and extras. AnyCut doesn’t have a great interface, and it might take some trial and error before you get to exactly what you’re looking for. Soon enough, though, you’ll have access to the deepest guts of your settings, so switching 3G on and off, enabling location services, and other tricks are easy to pull off.

9.Listen:

Until the latest upgrade, we couldn’t have really called Listen a king among podcast apps—it had a few irksome bugs, one of them being the loss of episodes and, sometimes, subscriptions. Now, however, Google’s own app does a great job not only of finding audio content, but it exports your subscriptions to be managed in Google Reader, ensuring a full feed backup and easier retrieval of past episodes you want to head back and hear. If you need more fine-grained podcast control, try ACast, but Listen will work for most.

10.Layar:

In some ways, this is a vote for the potential of Layar as much as the practical application. Walking around with your phone and seeing Wikipedia subjects, apartments for sale, and what Twitter users have raved about through your phone is a pretty neat thing, and potentially helpful when you’re looking for things to do in a new city. But as Layar continues to add new layers, and as camera and mobile processing power continue to improve, Layar could become a lot more interesting than it already is. One thing worth mentioning is that if you don’t like the 3-D camera view, or like the looks of yourself while using it, Layar can just show you points of interest on a Google-type map. Either way you use it, it’s an intriguing look at what’s happening just around the corner.

RIM released BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) 6 Thursday. Long a staple of the BlackBerry experience, BBM remains a strong platform with 45 million users, 70% of whom use it daily. This latest iteration of BBM adds a new social app layer to the messaging platform.

On supported apps, users will be able to utilize various BBM features within the app itself. While playing a game, for example, users can invite their BBM friends to join and continue to chat in real-time, all from within the app itself.

Some of the apps that will support BBM 6 include: Foursquare, The Huffington Post, Wikitude, Telemap, Scoremobile and Poynt.

We can see how this social layer will be useful, especially for location-based applications. You can see how Foursquare will integrate BBM 6 with its app in this video:

BBM continues to be the crown jewel of the BlackBerry experience. Apple will be forging its own iOS-centric communications platform with iOS 5, but for now, BBM is in a class of its own.

Sony is bringing its Qriocity Video on Demand service to the 2011 Xperia line of Android phones beginning August 1.

Using Qriocity video, Xperia owners can rent or purchase movies and TV shows from NBC, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, Warner Bros. Digital Distribution, Universal International Television Distribution and content from local studios. New releases and back catalog content will be available.

According to the Sony Ericsson, the service will initially launch in nine markets, including the U.S., Canada, the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Italy and Australia. Japan will get access to the service by the end of August. All content will be localized, which is a nice touch.

Unlike the Music Unlimited app for Android, the new video service is exclusive to Xperia devices, at least for now.

The Xperia mini and the Xperia mini pro are the first devices that will gain support for the new service. The Xperia arc, Xperia neo, Xperia PLAY and other 2011 devices will gain access through a software update later this year. Future Xperia devices will also have access to the content.

Qriocity Video is one of the few international offerings for commercial video on-demand content and this is the first Android competitor to iTunes that we have seen on a global (or, at least more global) level.

Pixeet is a full, floor-to-ceiling panorama lens that works with almost any phone. It currently only supports iPhone but it will soon support Android and Blackberry devices as well.

How does it work? Well, you stick the lens right on the device and scan the room or space from left to right. The aluminum and glass lens picks up a full 360-degree panorama and then lets you post it to Pixeet’s own servers.

The lens will also work with other devices like digital cameras and webcams. It uses a magnetic ring that sticks to the device and holds the lens in place. There are plenty of these on the market but I think the more widespread compatibility is key here. The lens costs $50.

Sony Ericsson had announced the Xperia Mini and Xperia Mini Pro a few months ago. The handsets were said to launch in August and it seems that the launch date will be a bit early. Flipkart is selling the Sony Ericsson Xperia Mini Pro and it is available at pre-order.

The Android handset has been missing from the news for quite some time, but finally some development. The handset is priced at Rs. 15,099/- which seems pretty decent for the features it delivers including a 1GHz processor, Android Gingerbread, 5MP camera with 720p video, full-QWERTY keyboard, etc. So this pre-order confirms one thing, Sony Ericsson will be launching the handset anytime in this week or the next.
